Bbembe was a difficult yet rewarding project! We were forced to drill more than 3 holes even with the support of hydrogeological surveys before we ultimately found water. The completion of this well was in partnership with Morgan Engineering in Alliance, Ohio! The village of Bbembe is home to more than 1,500 individuals with a surrounding population of more than 1,000. Previously, the community relied primarily on rain harvest during the rainy season but were forced to drink water from various holes they had dug in the ground to collect water. This water was filled with algae and even tadpoles at times but were the only sources within 5 miles. The community no longer uses these water sources, as we were able to build them a modern solar powered well! This solar powered well is able to output more than 10,000 liters of safe clean drinking water every day for the community!
